Tenggerese language

In daily speaking, Tenggerese speak in Javanese, in Majapahit dialect, which is Bahasa Tengger. They also have their own written based on Kavi script, an old Javanese Brahmu type. Kavi is derived from the Pallava script.

 

 

RELIGION

 

The Tenggerese generally profess Hinduism as their religion, although they have many Buddhist and Animist elements, The Balinese worship Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa. For blessing addition to their Hindu and Buddhist gods include the Timurti, namely Shiva, Bramah, Visnu and Buddha.Their worship include the Punden, Poten, and Danyang. The Poten sacred area at Mt.Bromo’s Sand sea, and become the focus of the Kasada Ceremony.

 

The Poten contains several buildings and enclosures, arranged in a specific composition called The Tenggerese,They also worship a host of spirits (ancestor worship). They include Cikal Bakal, the spirit of founders of the village,The roh bahurekso, the village guardian spirits and the roh leluhur, the spirits of the ancestors.
