KASADA CEREMONY

Once in a year they held ceremony of Kasada or Yadnya Kasada as a thanks giving to the Lord. This ceremony is always held in midnite in full moon time around date of 14 or 15 July, based on Javanese Calender.When the Yadnya Kasada day arrives. In the middle of night the Tenggerese tribe go to the sea of sand mountains Bromo, the crowds that have traveled together up the mountain, pray together on the mountain and throw offerings into the crater of the volcano. The sacrifices include vegetables, fruit, livestock, flowers and even money, and are offered in gratitude for agricultural and livestock abundance. Some locals climb down into the crater despite obvious dangers, to retrieve the sacrificed goods, believing that these will bring good luck.
