During the Ondel-ondel performance, It accompanied by music instrument. This music instruments is called Gambang Kromong.  When the Gambang Kromong music instruments start to play, The Giant puppet of Ondel-ondel will dance and follow the Gambang Kromong rhytm.

Gambang Kromong is a is a traditional orchestra of Betawi people which is a blend of gamelan, Western music and Chinese-style pentatonic base tones. Gambang kromong is closely associated with the Chinese Betawi community, especially the Chinese. It was popular in the 1930s.

Gambang kromong orchestral instruments consists of: gambang kayu (a xylophone-like instrument), kromong (a set of 5 toned bonang), two Chinese rebab-like instruments called ohyan and gihyan with its resonator made out of a small coconut shell, a diatonic pitched flute that is blown crosswise, kenong and gendang drums. Western instruments such as trumpets, guitars, violins, and saxophones may also be included.

Gendang, also written Kendang, is a double-headed drum. The gendang is usually made as such that one side is larger than the other. The larger side is usually placed to the right. The gendang sits on a stand, and is hit with the hands on either side while the player sits on the floor.

Besides xylophone and keromong, there are also other accompanying instruments, such as Ning Nong is a stringed instrument that originated from China. In Batavia, there are three kinds of music instrument and distinguished based on the size. Stringed instrument or ensemble instruments called large sukong

The Gambang looks like a metallophone instrument or xylophone, however, its bars are made of wood rather than bronze. There used to be two types of Gambang, a Gambang with bronze bars and a Gambang with wooden bars. Bronze Gambang used to be found in the gamelan but nowadays it is not used anymore. So, 'Gambang" is now referred to a wooden bar Gambang
